Experiencing Government in Action

In 1967, Northbrook students stepped into local government to discuss Village capital improvements. Students were praised for having “an amazingly good grasp of their subject matter” and sounding “somewhat like a real Village Board in action.”

That tradition continued May 18, 2026, with Northbrook’s 67th Annual Student Government Day. This year’s mock agenda featured a major proposal: IHSA purchasing property at Village Green Park to build a multi-sport stadium for youth national championship events. Student staff members presented the issue to which student board members decided not to move forward with the proposal.

A fun look back, and a great reminder that civic engagement starts early.
