A Fourth of July Tradition through the Decades

As America celebrates its 250th anniversary this year, we're looking back at the early days of Northbrook's Fourth of July tradition.

Believe it or not, Independence Day wasn't always one of Northbrook's biggest celebrations. In 1949, the Village's Fourth of July parade drew a crowd of just 150 spectators. At the time, the larger community celebration was actually Northbrook Days, held each August.

Over the years, the Fourth of July celebration grew into the tradition we know today, with thousands of people gathering each year for the parade, family activities, and fireworks.

As Northbrook celebrates its 125th anniversary alongside our nation's 250th birthday, these historic photos remind us how community traditions evolve while continuing to bring neighbors together year after year.
